Washington, D.C. – August 16, 2007
The Honorable Anthony J. Principi, former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, will be the featured guest speaker at the third annual MorganFranklin Wounded Warrior Project Invitational Golf Tournament. The tournament is scheduled for September 10, 2007, at The Courses at Andrews Air Force Base.

Principi served as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs from January 2001 until January 2005. Under his leadership, the number of veterans receiving treatment increased by more than 1,000,000, the number of veterans waiting six months or more for non-urgent care decreased from 300,000 to 40,000, and the inventory of veterans disability claims decreased by 41 percent. “Secretary Principi is a well-known and powerful advocate for our nation’s veterans,” said Robert Morgan, MorganFranklin CEO. “We are honored that he is joining us for this important event in support of the Wounded Warrior Project.”

A 1967 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Principi is a combat-decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. He has a long and distinguished public sector career, including service as Chief Counsel and Staff Director of the Senate Committee on Armed Services (1993 to 1994), Acting VA Secretary (1992 to 1993), VA Deputy Secretary (1989 to 1992), Chief Counsel and Staff Director of the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs, (1984 to 1988), and Assistant Deputy Administrator for Congressional and Public Affairs for the Veterans Administration (1983 to 1984). He earned his law degree from Seton Hall University in 1975 and served in the Navy’s Judge Advocate General Corps.

The MorganFranklin Wounded Warrior Project Invitational Golf Tournament supports the work of the Wounded Warrior Project, a non-profit organization that provides free assistance to veterans attempting to obtain benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs and other agencies, represents veterans on state and federal legislative issues, works with business and government leaders to ensure veterans are given equal opportunity, and provides outreach to modern veterans through programs and services that address their unique needs.
