Washington, D.C. – January 6, 2016
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is pleased to announce that the 2016 James L. Eichberg Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to MorganFranklin Consulting CEO C.E. Andrews at the 29th Annual Leukemia Ball on March 12, 2016. Andrews is being honored for his dedication to the mission of LLS and overall support of the Washington, D.C., community.

For more than 25 years, Andrews has been an active champion of the LLS mission, chairing multiple fundraising campaigns that have raised more than $6 million to support blood cancer research and patient programs.

“As a tireless advocate for patients battling blood cancers, C.E. exemplifies the kind of individual the James L. Eichberg Lifetime Achievement Award is meant to honor,” said Beth Gorman, Executive Director of LLS’s National Capital Area Chapter. “We are thrilled to recognize his outstanding efforts and exceptional dedication in support of the development of life-saving therapies that are improving the lives of blood cancer patients. C.E.’s work goes beyond LLS, and we know that our appreciation is echoed by many D.C. institutions to which he has devoted his time and expertise.”

As chairman of LLS’s Leukemia Ball in 2000 and 2001, Andrews helped grow the event into what is now one of the largest non-political black-tie galas in Washington, D.C. In 2012, he chaired the Ball’s Individual Giving Campaign, which raised more than $270,000. For the past two years, he has chaired an individual fundraising campaign to support LLS’s Therapy Acceleration Program (TAP) partnership with Celator Pharmaceuticals for the development and acceleration of the most promising new treatment for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in more than 30 years. With a goal of $1 million, the campaign has raised approximately $980,000.

“It has been a great honor to work with LLS over the past 25 years,” said Andrews. “When I first became involved, survival rates were low, and treatments were often harsh. Today, through the support of countless individuals, researchers, and patients teaming with LLS to find cures, we have made tremendous progress and are closing in on the promise of a world without blood cancers. We will get there.”

Since 2013, Andrews has served as CEO of MorganFranklin Consulting, where he leads all operations and activities around planning and executing the firm’s long-term growth strategy and vision and ensures delivery of unparalleled client service and workplace excellence. A veteran of the consulting and financial services industries, Andrews previously served as President of RSM McGladrey, Inc. and President, CEO, CFO, and Executive Vice President at SLM Corporation/Sallie Mae. He also served as Global Managing Partner for the Worldwide Audit and Business Advisory Practice at Arthur Andersen LLP, where he worked in numerous leadership roles for nearly 30 years.

In addition to his work with LLS, Andrews serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Global Good Fund, a non-profit organization that, through a hands-on fellowship experience, accelerates the development of high-potential young leaders tackling the world’s greatest social issues. For more than 15 years, he has worked in a variety of roles with Junior Achievement of Greater Washington. As Chairman of its Board of Directors in 2010, he helped open the first JA Finance Park® youth financial literacy center in Fairfax, Virginia. Andrews’ involvement with this non-profit group dedicated to educating students in grades K-12 about financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship is a natural fit, considering his years of experience in the financial sector.

The 2016 Leukemia Ball, presented by PhRMA on March 12, 2016, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, is a black-tie formal event that will kick off at 6:30pm and feature musical entertainment by Barenaked Ladies and a comedic performance by Kathleen Madigan.

The James L. Eichberg Lifetime Achievement Award was established in memory of Jim Eichberg, a long-time volunteer and supporter of LLS who made service to others an integral part of his daily life. The award recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of an individual who has demonstrated dedication and commitment to the mission of LLS, thereby making a significant impact on the lives of patients and families. Past recipients are the McLaughlin family (2015), Bobby Mitchell (2014), Tamara Darvish (2013), and Kevin Fay (2012).
