Trevor Norcross
Director

GREAT TEAMS START WITH GREAT PEOPLE.

Meet Trevor Norcross.

What is your role at MorganFranklin, and what do you do?

I’m a Director on the Technology Advisory team, part of our Technology Enablement practice. Currently, my focus is on two of our service lines.

For IT Strategy and Assessments, I define our service offerings, oversee the delivery teams, and lead engagements focused on assessing IT organizations. We take a comprehensive, holistic look at everything from the people to the processes, budget, and technology in use, identify the gaps, and prioritize recommendations into an aggregated roadmap.

My second focus is on growing our Microsoft Modern Work and Infrastructure presence in the market, establishing and leading our offering focused on Microsoft 365 and Azure. I have an extensive background and experience with Microsoft solutions and am thrilled to be able to use that as a foundation to help grow our company.

What led you to pursue your role at MorganFranklin?

Although a MorganFranklin employee referred me, the more I learned about the firm, the more excited I was about pursuing a career here. The company is full of opportunities for the entrepreneurial, like myself, and has a fantastic culture I have not seen before in other organizations.

There are hundreds of consulting firms that provide technology services. What makes our technology advisory team so unique?

There are a couple of ways to answer this, but I will start by saying I truly believe the people make the team unique and successful. Our team has a lot of talent, great advisors, and consultants who bring our clients a wealth of experience and knowledge.

Beyond the people, the support we get from the rest of MorganFranklin, as well as Vaco and the family of firms, enables us to be nimble for our clients and solve new types of problems regularly, which you wouldn’t see from a technology advisory team elsewhere.

What does an ideal Saturday look like for you?

An ideal Saturday would either include relaxing with my children and girlfriend (swimming, theme parks, and video games are the big activities) or spending the day on campus at The Ohio State University, watching the Marching Band rehearse, and attending game day with 105,000 of my closest fan friends!

As a proud alumnus of Ohio State University, can you share a favorite memory as an active alum member and what it means to you?

I was a member of Ohio State’s Athletic Band (played the snare drum), the pep band that played basketball, hockey, and volleyball games. The trips with the band were among my top memories, having traveled to NCAA and Big-Ten tournaments in numerous states and living the whole “band experience” with my peers.

If you had to recruit someone to join the MorganFranklin team, what are three traits you would want to see in this recruit?

I would want to recruit someone who is:

  • Entrepreneurial – we’re a rapidly growing firm, which is very exciting – and we need future leaders to help us continue the growth.
  • Not afraid to fail – sometimes, it takes multiple tries to get something right, especially as we attempt to grow and offer different services.
  • Flexible – in a growing company, we often wear multiple hats, sometimes simultaneously. We need strategic thinkers who are not afraid to roll up their sleeves and dig in alongside their team at times.

What is one more unique fact that others may not know about you?

I’ve been to 22 Dave Matthews Band concerts, from high school in the mid-1990s, through college and most recently in 2017. At the first one I attended, Dave was the opening act, and I was helping set up the sound and lighting. I got to meet him before the concert started, thought he was very down-to-earth, and decided to continue to follow him based on that experience.

We hear you were a DJ in a past life – how did you get into that field? Bonus question: What genre of music best describes MorganFranklin?

A past life for sure. I started at 12 at a roller-skating rink that my uncle managed. I picked it up quickly and had a lot of fun doing it. I continued through high school and college until I started working full-time in IT. At one point, I was combining my knowledge of the DJ industry with my knowledge of computers and technology, and speaking at DJ conferences, showing others how to build customized computers capable of digitizing music and video playback (back when everyone was using CDs and DVDs). Now the computers you buy off the shelf from the store down the road have enough horsepower to handle these easily without requiring custom components and builds.

Bonus: Given our high-energy culture, our mission to build and grow, and the general air of excitement surrounding MorganFranklin, I would liken us to some flavor of EDM (electronic dance music). EDM is fast-paced, energy building up over time, and gives a feeling of excitement to the listener – much like MorganFranklin to its employees and clientele!
