Meet Tim Tuan

What five words best describe you?

Practical, meticulous, adventurous, agreeable, caring.

What is your role at MorganFranklin Consulting, and what do you do?

I’m a manager specializing in accounting and financial reporting, including complex technical accounting and the adoption of new accounting standards – I have worked on projects primarily with SEC reporting and technical accounting. I am also heavily involved in the firm’s ASC 842 lease accounting initiative.

What do you particularly enjoy about the work you do and why did you choose to work at MorganFranklin Consulting?

I get a chance to meet and work with a diverse range of clients while working on projects that help add to my accounting skill set. The project-oriented focus allows me to work on different projects that pull on a number of of accounting skills. Further, I have the opportunity to work alongside people with consulting, audit, industry, and regulatory backgrounds that provide a perspective that I have not seen before.

A friend of mine referred me to MorganFranklin Consulting and vouched for his positive experience at the firm. He had a similar background to mine from audit and industry, and seeing the success of someone who took the same path as me, as well as meeting the people I interviewed with, is why I chose to work here.

How would you describe MorganFranklin Consulting’s culture?

I think MorganFranklin Consulting is a place that is very open and collaborative. It is up to you as an individual to determine what you want to get out of working here – there is a level of freedom in how you want to own your career that I have not seen at my previous companies.

The concept of team is also very important. There are other individuals that were crucial in contributing to the success of the project on every engagement I have worked on.  

How have you taken ownership of your career at MorganFranklin Consulting? What does “surpassing expectations” mean to you and in the work you do?

I was fortunate to get exposed to the business side of MorganFranklin Consulting with the ASC 842 lease accounting initiative. This initiative has been useful in learning what is involved with writing proposals and putting together thought leadership materials for potential clients. I also get to take part in the interview process as we continue to build out our team.

To me, surpassing expectations is about taking on additional accountability, in the execution and delivery of a project or by taking on more internal firm initiatives.

What advice would you give to someone hoping to pursue a career at MorganFranklin Consulting?

Being a team player will take you far. Demonstrate to your team members that you can be credible and willing to perform for the benefit of the team, and this will open doors for you.

What is your favorite office hack that makes your day more productive and successful?

I spent a couple of months learning Spanish on my commute. I stopped for no good reason, but it was enjoyable while it lasted.

If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, real or fictional, who would you choose and why?

I am a fan of Conan O’Brien, and I think he would have some great stories to tell. #TeamCoco
