GREAT TEAMS START WITH GREAT PEOPLE.
Meet Patricia Martin
If you had all the money in the world to spend, what kind of vacation would you plan?
I would travel to all of the US National Parks. My favorite vacations have been in our National Parks because of the peace, beauty, and a sense of wonder I feel about our country.
How would you describe your role in Strategy and Transformation at MorganFranklin to a third grader?
I am like a line-leader: I work with the teacher to figure out where we need to go, and then lead the way in order to help the class get there.
Please tell us about your professional background and what led you to pursue a career at MorganFranklin.
I worked for several corporations before becoming a consultant. In each case, I was drawn to special projects that transformed business models; particularly in the field of finance. After discovering I was modeling a consulting career – moving from company to company once a project was implemented – I took the leap into consulting (when my daughter left for college).
Having been with both small and large firms, I believe MorganFranklin is just the right size. It is small enough that I can see my impact, but large enough that the firm has the tools and infrastructure to support my professional needs.
What characteristics and disciplines do you need to be successful in your role at MorganFranklin?
You need the skills to determine what the client needs, and the judgment and discipline to design solutions that meet those needs. Also, because we are a small firm, there are varying leadership styles and requirements. Learning to deal with those differences (and finding your place in each one) is a key determinant of success.
How would you describe MorganFranklin’s culture?
Client-focused. We truly search for solutions that are a value-add to our clients. At the same time, we are very employee-focused. MorganFranklin’s goal is to arm its people with the understanding, skills, and tools to make them successful.
What has been your favorite team, corporate activity, or event hosted by MorganFranklin?
On one of my larger client teams, the team would periodically host barbeques to give all of the travelling team members a home cooked meal while on the road. I loved the great times we had cooking, eating, and talking.
If you could travel back in time, what advice would you give to your 13-year-old self?
It is not always about you! Learning to understand other people’s needs and concerns (and where you fit in) is a very valuable tool to have in this world.
What is your favorite office hack that makes your day more organized and productive?
Creating a to-do list on Sunday evenings gets my week organized and laid out. I love crossing off accomplishments!
What TV show are you currently addicted to and why?
Broadchurch on Netflix. I binge-watched this show over two weekends. I love the mystery and character development. The coastal scenery is also awesome!
