GREAT TEAMS START WITH GREAT PEOPLE.
Meet Brandon Conner
What is one unique thing that others may not know about you?
Most people do not know that I like to draw and paint.
How would you describe your job in our government practice to a child?
I would say that my job is like a teacher – and the government is my student. I give the government a range of tests and use the results to help them get better. The goal is to help the government pass the ultimate test, which is an audit.
You previously served in the US Air Force in Iraq. What led you to choose a career in government consulting with MorganFranklin when you transitioned from the military?
Most of the brave men and women who serve in the armed forces will tell you that they do it because they feel they are part of something much greater than themselves. In my military life, I deployed to foreign places and made a direct impact downrange.
In the role that I have assumed here at MorganFranklin, I am helping to impact my client’s bottom line. Through my military experience, I have a unique connection to the work that I do, allowing me to understand how a change in financial processes at the headquarters level can affect a [serviceman/woman] downrange.
How has leadership at MorganFranklin kept you inspired in your role?
I have assumed multiple roles throughout my time here at MorganFranklin. With every new role, there are new challenges that came with it. I have been fortunate enough to be supported by leaders like Frank Landefeld, Jim Wolcott, Tom Roland, Manj Singh, Michelle Paul, and Jeff Sears. These are the leaders that have inspired confidence in me whenever I was faced with a new and difficult challenge.
Frank’s unwavering trust in me as a young consultant built my confidence throughout the years. Jim’s complete openness to questions and his mentorship have helped me develop a well-rounded skillset. Tom and Manj granted me priceless experience by sharing their technical expertise. Michelle and Jeff have been in my corner, also serving as mentors and coaches.
What do you think is unique about the culture at MorganFranklin?
The most unique part of the MorganFranklin culture is the sense of inclusion. Our various passion groups do a good job of reaching out and making us aware of upcoming events and how we can get involved. The culture at MorganFranklin has a unique way of making everyone feel important.
How have you taken ownership of advancing in your career at MorganFranklin? What does “surpassing expectations” mean to you and in the work you do?
I think direction has played a big part in advancing in my career here at MorganFranklin. I constantly seek advice from my mentor, leadership, career coach, and peers. There are a lot of special people at MorganFranklin, and I leverage their experiences to help direct my career advancement.
What is one thing you enjoyed learning since joining MorganFranklin?
I have learned so much since joining MorganFranklin that it is difficult to pick just one thing. We have these “Lunch and Learn” sessions nearly every Friday where the topics range from Data Science to Revenue Recognition. I really enjoy eating and learning – a great combination!
What advice would you give to someone hoping to pursue a career at MorganFranklin?
My advice to this person would be to evaluate themselves and understand what is unique about them. Ask themselves, “How can I make MorganFranklin better?” And then ask, “How can MorganFranklin make me better?”
What has been your favorite project that you have worked on at MorganFranklin, and why?
I had an opportunity to work on a project that was more challenging than anything I had ever encountered. Fortunately, I had a great team that supported me throughout. Every day, I was learning from and working with some very sharp people such as David Marrin and Manj Singh. The challenging work coupled with the incredibly smart team is what made this project stand out for me.
Favorite way to unwind after a long day?
Ideally, my favorite way to unwind after a long day is to hit the gym, eat a good meal, and either paint or watch a decent movie. Sometimes, the gym part gets skipped.
