MorganFranklin Publishes Research Study Exploring How Fast-Growth Companies Plan to Expand in 2014

MorganFranklin partners with FierceCFO to conduct inaugural study focused on revealing trends and perspectives of finance professionals preparing for smart, accelerated growth through M&A, geographic expansion, strategic hiring, and more.

McLean, Virginia – July 16, 2014
According to a 2014 research study released today by MorganFranklin Consulting, 43% of participants surveyed expect to complete a significant acquisition in the coming year. How Do Companies Plan to Grow in 2014? 2014 Outlook on Fast-Growing Companies is an annual study exploring growth-company trends and perspectives of finance professionals preparing for smart, accelerated growth. MorganFranklin, a D.C.-based execution-focused business consulting firm and professional advisor, conducted the study in partnership with FierceCFO, a publication of FierceMarkets and leading source of news and information for financial and accounting management professionals.

The study polled finance professionals, primarily C-suite executives and finance managers from a mix of industries including health care, financial services, government, technology, telecommunications, consumer goods, professional services, and media and entertainment. The researchers aimed to define what "smart, accelerated growth" means to finance professionals, assess growth expectations for 2014, and identify the top areas for hiring this year.

Study participants shared perspectives on growth strategies such as geographic expansion, strategic hires, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), synergies, macroeconomic drivers, revenue growth, research and development (R&D), and innovation. Specific questions included:

  • When do you anticipate your next significant acquisition?
  • What percentage revenue growth is your organization forecasting in 2014?
  • What are your primary concerns around reaching growth targets?
  • How does your organization plan to grow in 2014?
  • Who in your organization is responsible for handling M&A?
  • What investments will your organization delay if revenue targets are not met?

"Despite modest revenue growth projections and the recovering economy, the results of our study indicate that fast-growing companies are eager to advance strategic investments and expand in-house capabilities to further drive growth through M&A," said Shawn Degnan, Managing Director and leader of the Growth Market at MorganFranklin Consulting, which helps venture and private-equity-backed companies prepare for initial public offerings (IPOs), divestitures, acquisitions, and continued growth. "The study results signal that organizations are ready for accelerated growth and they are willing to make up-front investments in strategic M&A and future synergies. Growth companies understand that cost-cutting is no match for innovation."

McLean, Virginia – May 22, 2014

“The results revealed that while cost takeout is still important, it is less of a focus in 2014. In contrast to recent years, many organizations are more interested in understanding how their investments are advancing plans to grow and increase revenue share,“ said Tom Roland, Managing Director and leader of the Strategy, Finance & Operations solution offering at MorganFranklin Consulting. “We interpret this as meaning the respondents have an increased desire to make more informed business investment decisions, and we look forward to seeing how this trend influences finance transformation in the future.”

McLean, Virginia – April 24, 2014
C.E. The news comes after a year of strong growth and the appointment of industry veteran C.E. Andrews as Chief Executive Officer.

MorganFranklin has experienced notable growth since being founded in 1998. In 2013, the company achieved 30% growth just one year after the strategic sale of one of its business units. MorganFranklin Consulting’s Jeana Foster Launches Campaign for 2013 LLS ‘Woman of the Year’

Firm's Senior Manager of Corporate Social Responsibility among 20 D.C.-area candidates aiming to raise $1.2 million for LLS National Capital Chapter in just 10 weeks.

McLean, Virginia – May 6, 2013
Jeana Foster, Senior Manager of CSR, MorganFranklin ConsultingMorganFranklin Consulting, a leading business consulting and technology solutions company based in McLean, Va., and London, announced today that Jeana Foster, the firm's Senior Manager of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), has been named a candidate in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) National Capital Chapter 2013 Man & Woman of the Year campaign. Foster is one of 20 candidates in the Washington, D.C., area vying to collectively raise $1.2 million in just 10 weeks in the fight against blood cancer.

Foster will raise funds through donations, sponsorships, in-kind opportunities, and events in honor of the 2013 LLS Boy & Girl of the Year, Reed Switzer and Madison Nardi, young survivors of blood cancer. In this spirited competition, each dollar donated counts as one vote, and the titles are awarded to the man and woman who receive the most votes at the conclusion of the 10-week campaign. The top local fundraisers in the country win the national titles.

"I am excited to have been given this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help more than one million Americans living with blood cancers," Foster said. "This cause has always been close to my heart. I lost my beloved grandmother, Belinda Doheny, to leukemia in 1999. To be able to do this in her honor means more to me than words can express."

Foster has been actively involved with various charities for more than 15 years, beginning her career as Director of Special Events with the American Cancer Society before working for the American Heart Association and Greater Washington Sports Alliance. Since joining MorganFranklin in 2008, Foster has utilized her experience and enthusiasm to build a strong charitable culture and company-wide passion for volunteerism.

"MorganFranklin Consulting has a long history of supporting LLS, and we are honored to support Jeana Foster as a candidate for Woman of the Year. We applaud her exemplary fundraising efforts to help the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in its mission to improve the quality of life of patients and their families," said Ashley Baquié, Vice President of Human Resources at MorganFranklin Consulting.

The 2013 campaign kicked off on March 28, as candidates gathered their top supporters and campaign teams to rally for the 10-week drive. The top male and female fundraisers will be named Man & Woman of the Year at the Grand Finale Gala, held at The Ritz-Carlton in downtown D.C. on Saturday, June 8.

Now in its 22nd year, the Man & Woman of the Year campaign is one of Washington's top fundraising events. With campaigns running in more than 70 cities nationwide, the National Capital Area Chapter aims to be the top fundraising chapter in the country for the 11th year. Last year, the chapter set the record for the most funds ever raised in the campaign, collecting a staggering $1 million.

All donations are 100% tax deductible and are due by June 7 to count toward the campaign. To read more about Jeana Foster's campaign or to make a donation to LLS, visit her campaign website.

Bill Hughes, MorganFranklin Managing Director, Appointed to GAO Green Book Advisory Council

Respected audit and accountability authority to share expertise and insight as GAO works to revise and update Standards for Internal Control in the Federal Government.

McLean, Virginia – May 2, 2013
Bill Hughes, Managing Director and Public Sector Market Lead, MorganFranklin ConsultingMorganFranklin Consulting, a leading business consulting and technology solutions company that delivers financial management, performance improvement, and technology enablement solutions to government and industry clients, today announced that Managing Director and Public Sector Market Lead Bill Hughes has been appointed to the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) Green Book Advisory Council (GBAC). Hughes will be sworn in for his two-year term of appointment on May 20 at GAO headquarters in Washington, D.C. He was nominated by the GAO to share his expertise and insight as the GBAC works to revise and update GAO's Standards for Internal Control in the Federal Government, also known as the "Green Book."

The GBAC is comprised of a select group of 20 to 25 qualified members with complementary skills and strong knowledge in internal controls from organizations spanning the internal audit community; federal, state, and local government; academia; and organizations that perform financial, compliance, and performance auditing.

"It is an honor and a privilege to be selected to serve on the GAO Green Book Advisory Council. I extend my appreciation to U.S. Comptroller General Gene L. Dodaro and the entire Government Accountability Office for entrusting me with this position to serve the GAO mission," Hughes said. "I am excited for this opportunity to update standards over federal internal controls to help agencies achieve their missions in a more efficient and effective manner—all of which contributes to saving taxpayer dollars during these challenging times. I look forward to collaborating with the council and I hope to bring a unique perspective by utilizing my background and exposure to both government and commercial sector clients and experiences."

The GAO, often called the "congressional watchdog," is an independent, nonpartisan agency that works for Congress to investigate how the federal government spends taxpayer dollars. In 1999, GAO issued the Standards for Internal Control in the Federal Government, which provide the overall framework for establishing and maintaining internal control and identifying and addressing major performance and management challenges and areas at greatest risk of fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement.

The Green Book Advisory Council provides input and recommendations to the Comptroller General for revisions to the standards to maintain their relevancy and harmonize the federal government internal control standards with the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO) Internal Control-Integrated Framework. The GBAC advises the Comptroller General on internal control standards throughout the standard-setting process by proposing standards, exposing proposed standards for public comment, evaluating comments, incorporating necessary changes, and issuing final documents.

Since joining MorganFranklin Consulting in 2005, Hughes has been instrumental in creating, leading, and shaping the strategic direction of the firm’s government sector activities. He possesses more than 22 years of professional services experience conducting external audit, CFO Act, audit readiness, internal control, CFO compliance/federal financial management, and governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) engagements. Hughes is deeply experienced with federal and commercial audits, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX)/Office of Management and Budget (OMB) No. A-123, COSO/GAO Green Book, GAO FAM/FISCAM, GAO Yellow Book (GAGAS), FFMIA, FMFIA, and other OMB, GAO, Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board (FASAB), and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) regulations.

Hughes is a member of the AICPA, American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC), and New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA). He is also a past member of the FASAB Accounting and Audit Policy Committee (AAPC) and General Property, Plant, and Equipment Task Force, as well as a current member and past president of the Association of Government Accountants (AGA) Northern Virginia Chapter. In addition, Hughes serves on the executive committees for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's metro Washington, D.C., Light the Night and Leukemia Ball events. He is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in New York, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., and is a Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) and Certified Internal Controls Auditor (CICA).
